We grabbed a frictionless sled from main engineering and loaded the unconscious drak women onto it. Well, Phyra did. I spent that time gradually detaching the two blood drunk women from my lower extremities so that we could load them on top of their compatriots and drop them off with Lilia and her girls. I still needed to deal with Major Drozdov, so I had to cut the visit short, but I promised Lilia that this was the last item on my to-do list before our talk and a quick peck on her cheek kept the complaints to a minimum. It was still strange for me, being able to leverage what would otherwise be basic, friend-level intimacies out in the world to such noticeable effect on this ship. The deprivations of imprisonment were terrifyingly potent, and it seemed pretty clear from her demeanor that Lilia wanted me to address them for her directly.
Possibly not just for her, either.
I wasnât sure I had that in me. Decades of failed attempts at meaningful intimate relationships had left me with a lot of damage, things that could pop into my head at any moment and ruin just about any kind of joy I was experiencing. And the way my parents had ended up⦠those wounds werenât ever going away.
I knew a lot of men who walked through life moving from woman to woman, no sooner done with the last then they were on to the next, without so much as a glance behind them. They were like walking phalluses⦠phallii? That talked about nothing but sex and the occasional sportsball score. I often envied them their mental quietude and uncomplicated pleasures, though I totally avoided them in social situations. Those were some brutally boring conversations. I didnât dislike sports, mind, they made for a bit of good fun and a decent workout as well, but the thought of sitting and talking about some stranger playing a game while speculating on what that stranger might do the next time they played it just seemed pointless to me.
Right now, though, this place could use a score or two of men like that to redress the collective need. Unfortunately for the inmates, theyâd been saddled with me, instead.
Although, in my defense, it was unlikely any of those hypothetical men could have repaired the entire ship so theyâd probably all be dead...
The thought brought a smirk to my lips and a quick grunt of laughter. Then I sawed at my lips with my teeth for the millionth time and Phyra shot me a look of exasperation.
We were about halfway back to medical at this point. Iâd been quietly in my thoughts the whole way and sheâd left me to them, but apparently Iâd been chewing at my lips ever since the brief contact with Liliaâs skin. I sighed, wondering what sheâd dosed me with this time. I really couldnât stop touching them. My fault for making skin to skin contact with an eisheth girl, but I thought she liked me.
