Once you know what the perceived risks are, you set about shaping the path so that the customer’s stated risks are minimized or mitigated. Show them that you will provide training content and job aids to help their users adopt more readily. Offer to do a kickoff call with key business stakeholders in order to explain the change and show the company the value that comes from it.

What impact do you think an implementation effort would have on your end users?

This question is similar to the previous one, but we are after something different in asking it. It’s very important that when it organizations make choices, they think through what the business impact is going to be. The implementation of some technology solutions may involve system outages or windows of downtime. Typically, end users can’t work during those windows. Although the outages can’t be avoided, the frustration that end users experience can be minimized with proactive communication with the business. You can determine, for example, during what timeframe the system is least used and schedule the implementation outage to take place during that window. Then, by communicating what is going to happen with the end users, you minimize the grief your customers would have gotten from the business users during implementation.
