Q How do you feel about how bad Brad Wiggins sucked in 2013?

I wouldn’t say he sucked, exactly, but it’s hard to understand why he didn’t come closer to our expectations. My guess is that Wiggins made a lot of sacrifices* to accomplish what he did in 2012, and with all those yellow jerseys and a gold medal on the wall, it was probably tough to put himself through it again. Once you perfect something, you’ve outgrown it in a way. Wouldn’t you get bored doing the same puzzle over and over? Now imagine if one of the requirements to finish the puzzle was not eating a piece of cake for a year and doing countless hill repeats in the rain. Finally, pretend you’re already a millionaire and a knight, so you don’t have to do anything that you don’t want to. Maybe losers like us can never really understand.†

* Sacrifices and . . . compromises.

† I bought a sword, so I’m close enough to a knight that I’m not a loser anymore.
