a prelude to the The Grimm Diaries Series coming out soon

Author notes:

The following explanations show little info about how Cinderella’s story was put together. I didn’t want to write these notes because I always want the story itself to be the main attraction. The little things that hide between the lines are usually the author’s way to strengthen the background of their story and make it more credible. Not all readers should be aware of these secrets because this is not a thesis, it’s fiction where characters matter above all. At least this is the way I like to read books.

But it still wouldn’t hurt to explain that the whole idea behind the Grimm Diaries is based upon my belief that the world is connected, that ideas in books, films, and even in real life are partially based on one another. It’s so hard to point out at one truly original idea that isn’t inspired by another – or we would not be humans. In my case, I think all literature is connected in mysterious ways, and I use fairy tales and connect them to real life and history. Did you ever see fairy tales connected to Greek and Roman mythology, to real life events, and to poetry and nursery rhymes? Did even consider that fairy tale characters are real and have ancestors that you know of? I will elaborate on this later in the series, but right now, I just want to note four simple points.

Upon reader’s suggestions, you might be interested to know the following facts about Ashes to Ashes and Cinder to Cinder:

1 - The word “Moutza”, which Bianca uses when she bestows her five-finger burning powers, is driven from "moutzos" which means Cinder in Greek, a curse/ridicule traditionally used against suspected witches in ancient times. The connection was made because I have always been puzzled about Cinderella’s name, coming from Cinder. Yes, the fairy tales explain that her evil sisters and stepmother made her sleep next to cinder, but I always wondered how this childhood fact of Cinderella affected her later. If she slept near the fire every night, then fire should have had a great impact on her story when she became a teenager – or so my unstable brain thought. Also, the way Cinderella was ridiculed fits the Greek myth in a mysterious way. Think of how Cinderella was treated and how witches were treated back then. I am not going to explain any further since Cinderella’s character will be explained in details in the second book of the main series called Cinderella Dressed in Ashes which you can find HERE
