In the footsteps of Gaudí

Antoni Gaudí was a Spanish architect, but also an architectural artist who went down in the history of art as one of the most important artists of the 20th century and the most important representative of the Catalan modernist architectural movement.In order to understand Gaudí's work a little, one must first understand what his ideals were and where he drew his inspiration and ideas for his architectural work, and why he is impressed by his works until today, and he is also one of the few architects who is being copied because has one style that drew from nature, because as a small boy he often got sick and was of delicate health and spent a lot of time against the background of nature, which he closely watched. Gaudí was born on June 25, 1852 in Riudoms (Reus). He came from a family producing boilers. As a child he was a gentle health and was forced to spend time to rest in the Mos de Riudoms, thanks to which he had time to consider the secrets of nature, which he considered his great teacher. He found the essences and the architectural sense at a young age. He wanted to create something that would be difficult to copy and at the same time create something unique and make his project the most beautiful and original. As Gaudí said: "The originality is to return to the source.” In 1868, he moved to Barcelona to study architecture and at the same time work with various architects to pay for studies. He was not a regural student, but he already showed some signs of genius in college. After completing his studies in 1878, Elies Royent said: "I do not know if we are still in the title of genius or genius, time will show.” In the middle of 1878 Gaudí meets on his way to the career of Eusebi Guell - driver of the domestic industry. The tie between them was not only a business relationship, but also mutual admiration and common zaiteresowan, which combined their great friendship between them. Antoni not only designed his architectural works but also smaller details such as furniture and home decorations. He had had several homes in the city centre before, in 1906, he moved into the house of Park Guell with his father and his niece. The situation of the house, within the magnificent grounds of Park Guell, far from the city centre, seemed ideal given this father’s poor health, whilst it also enabled the architect to follow work on the park, then under construction, at first-hand. Moreover, the Mediterranean vegetation and the sea views probably reminded Gaudí of this childhood in the Camp de Terragona area. Today Gaudí’s home conserves his memory in several rooms and in the porch, where a statue of Saint Anthony reminds us that Gaudí would doff his hat to the saint every day on leaving and returning home. Antoni died on June 10, 1926, hit by a streetcar.
