Going up the hill for water is counterintuitive because water is found at the bottom of hills. The "water atop the hill" means the brothel, the first church. And the verse was originally Jack and Gill, and their adventure up the hill got them syphilis. The piety of Christianity was spurred by two very important reasons. Firstly, it was a necessary eugenics program for a bloated population living the consequences of sanctioned monthly orgies on the street. The second reason was the rise of urbanized syphilis.
