“Don’t say a word, just act casual and follow my instructions to the letter, we’ll communicate through thought alone, so to put it bluntly, think it, before you speak it” said the ghostly female voice.

‘What? Wait, I’m confused…’

“Look” said the female voice irritably, “It’s very simple, just do as I ask and everything will go smoothly… now order a drink and wait for further instructions”

‘Urm… Question, why am I here?’

“Information gathering”

‘Ok… may I ask; what kind of information you are looking for?’

“The kind that involves talking to the locals”

‘Oh, how I do love, how forthcoming you are… pray tell, are you going to be this obscure throughout this whole experience, or is there an opt out button, so I can escape this Bermuda triangle of cryptic bullshit’

“If you have quite finished voicing your opinion, would you be so kind as to do as I asked, without any further delay please, before I make your life an unbearable misery”

‘Sorry, but I’m not looking for a committed relationship’

Proxy sat there in a sulk, looking at the dirty surface of the bar, when suddenly someone, other than the female voice, spoke to him “So what can I get you then” it sighed with a lack of enthusiasm.

Proxy looked up, staring at the skeletal bar tender who was wearing a bowler hat and polishing a dirty glass with an even dirtier dish cloth, “Hello my kind fellow, give me a pint of your finest ale if you please” said Proxy. The skeletal bar tender just looked at him with his hollow eyes continuing to polish the glass, “We don’t serve ale here sir, not since 2040”

“Ok pint of cider then”

“Sorry, not since 2043”

“Vodka?”

“2067”

“Whisky?”

“2100”

“Wine?”

“Don’t be absurd sir”

“So what the hell do you serve then?”

“Liquefied rodents”

Proxy looked at him for a second or two then said sternly, “Ok, a pint of that then please”.

“Very good sir” said the bar tender “You have a choice of rat, flying rat, lizard or squirrel” he said reaching for the pumps.

“What do you recommend?”

The bar tender sighed, then said, “Well, I’d go for squirrel, but to be honest with you, they all taste like shit to me”.

Proxy took a slight pause, then said “I’ll have a tap water then please”.

The bar tender reluctantly served him handing him his drink. Proxy looked at the mucky glass then at the murky red water and couldn’t decide which looked worse

“Hey I asked for tap water, not… whatever the hell this used to be”

“That is the only tap water we serve here sir”

“This isn’t water, its murky… and red”

“It’s red? … well your lucky sir, it’s been coming out black for the last six months”

He pulled up his mask slightly, and reluctantly took a swig of his drink, “Christ, that tastes like shit” he bawled, placing his hand over his mouth trying not to be sick.

“Everything’s does around here” said the eight-feet creature next to him, in a deep, powerful voice. “Sorry how rude of me” he said, looking down at Proxy, holding out his long bony fingers, “My name is Petter, Petter Berg… and you are”.
