And What of Honor?

Chapter One

Year 3117 Nineday 6 Day 4

Rahdicaso pulled the hat further down over his forehead and entered the restaurant. Once again, the establishment that the Leader had chosen was crowded. Twelfth of Capital was the owner, and so, therefore, it was likely to be safe from prying eyes and listening ears.

The general made his way through the crowd to the side rooms along the right hand wall. He still hadn’t gotten used to having to wait for people to clear the path – a general shouldn’t have to wait. But just like the previous meetings, he wasn’t in uniform. There could be nothing that would make him memorable. Nothing that would make him stand out and be noticed. His plan was entering its final phase. Loose ends, potential risks, undesirable characters – all things that needed to be dealt with before achieving the ultimate goal.

He turned the corner into the alcove where the personal waste room was located and quickly slipped through the door beside it. He closed the door, quietly shutting it before turning around to face the person already there. The Leader of the Brotherhood was waiting for him. Rahdicaso didn’t bother with the usual formalities.

“Why did you wish to see me, Rahdicaso? This is highly unusual and highly risky. Imperial Security is closing in on me. I need to keep myself concealed from all public places so that I won’t be detained and questioned. Your last attempt on the female alien has left the Brotherhood dangerously exposed.”

Rahdicaso didn’t take the criticism well, but chose to not let his displeasure show. “Somehow, Imperial Security was able to ascertain the identity of the attacker. The clean up team failed to delete all of the family members. Imperial Security managed to apprehend them and derive information. Damaging information. The male who lead the clean up team has been suitably punished.”

“Ah yes. Such an unfortunate accident to have befallen Ninth of Capital. He had done such an excellent job of clean up after your previous two attempts to rid the Empire of the alien imposter. It’s a shame that he too had to be deleted. Generally, I regret having to dispose of assets that are normally quite useful to us. Such as Ninth. However, in this instance, it was necessary. Damage had been done. The Brotherhood needs to hide itself and not call attention to ourselves or our cause. No matter how justified and necessary it might be. Until males throughout the Empire finally recognize the situation and act accordingly, we are constrained in what we can and cannot do.”

Rahdicaso was repulsed by the words but once again chose to hide his true feelings. Such timidity! Such fear! Self-preservation puts the entire Empire at risk of the female’s scheme. Whatever it is. Clearly, my decision is not a mistake. “I disagree, Master. The time has come to act, decisively and quickly. Move quickly, complete the task, and the consequences will be minimal at best.”

The Leader of the Brotherhood knew what his Third meant by ‘complete the task’.
