Javier stood back from the crowd and watched as Aubrey was dragged up the hill into a waiting ambulance. He’d gotten stuck behind the ambulance and been forced to wait. It had been quite a surprise to see Aubrey as the injured party.

His plan to become close to the sister and spread certain rumors had backfired. The money he’d saved up was starting to disperse. Time to make Aubrey pay was running out.

He’d only married Aubrey to give the kid a name and so his base housing could be larger. He’d agreed not to have an affair. She’d told him if he wanted out to say something.

He should have just told her.

Now he had nothing. It wasn’t really her fault. Since it looked like she might not be around to enjoy her freedom, he was done. He was going to go home and get a job. Or find a woman who had a job, which currently sounded way more appealing.
