Interestingly, I benefit from many retweets of these tweets because, I suspect, people are happy to spread the word about something that is free.
Tie-Ins to a Specific Event
Whenever there is a specific event that only occurs at a certain time of year, then it is worth setting up a separate queue to take advantage of it. This can be something as simple as the holiday period, where you might set up tweets that refer to buying your book as a present for someone. Or, if your book refers to an event that happened in history, then a queue full of tweets scheduled around this historical date makes sense.
If something happens in the news that you can tie in to and benefit from the surrounding hype, then it's worth setting up a temporary queue with updates that refer to this. I did exactly this in January 2015 when a movie called Blackhat was released. The film, directed by Michael Mann, was all about cybercrime and was considered to be the first Hollywood feature film to portray computer hacking accurately. The reason that this was relevant to me was because my thriller series also includes numerous technically accurate scenes about cybercrime and features a computer hacker as the protagonist. Now I don't have anything like the marketing budget of the Blackhat producers, but by creating a temporary queue that referenced the movie, I was able to at least benefit from some of the hype they were creating. Here are a couple of examples of the tweets I crafted:
Seen the movie #Blackhat? Want more cyber thrills? Read 5* Invasion of Privacy: http://bit.ly/1vEbqqy #ebook #hacking
Liked hacker Nick Hathaway in #BlackhatMovie? Then try Brody Taylor from 5* Invasion of Privacy: http://bit.ly/1vEbqqy #kindle #hacking
