Some people possess a rounded shoulder, forward head posture, an anteriorly rotated pelvis causing low back arches, feet that turn out or knees that move in. These factors can affect their performance on workout equipment, such as steppers and treadmills, as well as stationary bicycles.

Smart Progression

Adaptation to a particular exercise routine can occur easily. When this happens, the same amount of work is done in less time and it is associated with less psychological disruption; in addition, it results in lower levels of fatigue or exertion. The workload must then be increased if benefits from training are to be seen. Smart progression involves the progression from a lower intensity level to a higher intensity level, longer duration, and/or increased frequency of the exercise session. An effective guideline is to keep the increase in activity to no more than 5% for each progression and the adaption to this increase spread over a period of a week or two. Additionally, change only one element (e.g., frequency, duration) at a time. Initial progression is from discontinuous to continuous activity, which leads to a relatively rapid initial progression.
