TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS
EARTH DATE: 02.05.2020
LOCATION: New York City
REGION: New York, USA, Earth
The universe snapped back into place around Krishna, barely controllable rage suffusing his being.
~Why do you keep running away, Morden?~
The group was inside a dark and decidedly filthy warehouse. Krishna didnât know where, but judging by the materials and the electrical systems, it was somewhere on Earth in the late twentieth to early twenty-first century.
âI do not ârun awayâ,â Morden scoffed from where he stood a few meters away, still holding the man heâd captured.
Mordenâs mind was too difficult for Krishna to probeâat least without the Reaver realizing what was happeningâbut his companions were less capable, so he slipped a tendril into Juniusâs mind, drawing out the identity of the man the Reavers had taken.
Matt, Amandaâs betrothed. What a waste of energy.
Shifting his vision beyond the three dimensions the beings around him were restricted to, he peered through the walls and confirmed their time and location. New York City, Earth, 2020.
But not the universe he was from. It was evident in the isotopes and chirality of the atomic structures around him.
~Then this was a strategic retreat?~ Krishna said in a mocking tone. ~You said we were attacking the Magusâs ship in order to draw her out. Not that you were hoping for a hostage.~
âI improvised,â Morden said as he pushed Matt toward Zenobia. âWeâll send them an ultimatum. Tangel and Amanda come alone, or the redheadâs lover dies.â
If Krishna hadnât already consumed the body heâd been using as a disguise, he would have groaned. ~I could have taken them out. You just needed to keep Amanda under wraps for a few more minutes. The Nexus security was on its way, and I could have dropped shards into them.~
âShards?â Morden scowled. âIs that what you did to my Reavers? I can see bits of you inside them.â
âMorden, I thought I could smell your stench,â Matt sneered as Zenobia held him in a Magical viceâthough she was unable to physically harm him due to the energy shield that protected the man. âAre you talking to that thing? Is that glowing octopus ball a person?â
Krishna adjusted his physical appearance, taking on the form of a large man with fists the size of pitchers. âA person of sorts, yes,â he growled. âOne who is thinking of ending you so we can focus on our real problem.â
âGo for it.â A smirk formed on Mattâs lips, and he glanced at Morden. âDingleberry here has captured me before, and I got free. Iâll do it again, and Amanda will get her opportunity to finally end him. You too, if youâre not careful.â
Krishna shook his head, turning to glare at Morden. âFirst, you take me to the Nexus, then here, when we could have finished them off on Kapalicarsi! I thought your goal was to gain access to the stasis shield technology Tangel controls?â
âIt is, but if we donât take care of Amanda, sheâll chase us across as many universes as it takes. And you know as well as I that we picked up reinforcements on both of those stations.
