I didn’t want to admit it to Charlie, but I was glad we were bringing casters with us, not because I wasn’t sure of our abilities, but because it wasn’t only the two of us anymore. I didn’t mind Charlie too much, but he seemed to have a poor me attitude and by the sounds of it, he hadn’t been a nice person on Earth. It seemed he only did what kept him safe, and while I knew Lucy was a wake-up call for him, and he hadn’t chosen to do it, I wondered if he would turn on us to survive, especially now that he was more powerful.

I wasn’t too sure of Landon. When Stephen mentioned he was useless, I hadn’t known why until I had to do a mock fight with several members of the community, including Landon and Brandon. They were on the same side, and while we were supposed to be fighting people on the enemy side, they turned on the other and began fighting, not once, or twice, but until the leaders kicked them out of the fight. Brandon was furious that Landon had more magic, but apparently, it went deeper than that.

What was with them? I knew not all twins were close, but how could a pair of twins hate each other so much? I could understand why Aldophous wanted to separate them, but I worried Landon would be the weak spot in our small group. He seemed to handle the magic better than Tiffany, who was still having difficulties, but apparently a lot less than before. But what if he was another Charlie? Was Courtney the only one I could trust?

I decided at one point, Landon and I would have a conversation. Aldophous wanted us to contact this ancient, and while I felt like the whole thing was a waste of time, I planned to take it seriously, especially since all four of us were brand-new supernaturals. We would need to trust each other if we wanted to return to the community safely, and Rebecca had threatened me and the others more than once that we were coming back.

She was upset that she wasn’t given more magic. Aldophous wanted her to focus on the shield for now. Valerie wanted to be the one to change her, but they wanted her to wait a little longer. He didn’t want any more humans changed for the time being anyway, and I knew this was a sore spot with many of them. The Zarotians were also upset because Aldophous said there would be no more abductions until this was over. He’d closed what they referred to as rips so that no one could use them. Not even people from other planets could use them.

From what I learned about them, they couldn’t travel to Earth as fast as they wanted without the rips. It would take forever, even with all the magic that powered their spaceship. Martha and Alfred had wanted to see if they could get some more, but Aldophous put his foot down, and I agreed with Aldophous.
