Chapter 11
Wyatt
In the week that follows, I take Felicity out to eat at the diner a couple of times, and on another night, she makes me a home-cooked meal to rival Mom's. We get our hands on each other at every opportunity and make out like teenagers, but we never go further. I enjoy being with her. She's fun and makes me smile more than I can recall doing in years. In fact, I feel like a goof every time I hear her footsteps coming up the path. But I'm sick of holding back. I want more from her than kisses, and I think she might finally be ready, too. I've been careful not to rush her, but every time we go our separate ways, she seems to grow more frustrated, which means one thing: tonight is the night.
It's Friday, and somehow, she's convinced me to attend karaoke at Bender's Bar. I've been beforeâusually with Julia, who loves getting on stage even though sheâs tone deafâbut I've never sung myself. I have a feeling that's about to change. Felicity isn't the kind of woman to take a back seat, and she won't let me do so either. That's one of the things I like about her. She sees me and doesn't let my gruffness dissuade her. She just smiles, kisses me, and does what she wanted to from the beginning.
When I get home from work, covered in dust and sweat, I shower briefly and dress in jeans and a t-shirt. Bender's isn't one of those places where you need to go the extra mile. As soon as Felicity arrives, I feel under-dressed. She breezes into the living room wearing a lilac dress that stops halfway down her thighs and has the kind of floaty skirt that would be so damn easy to slip my hand underneath to discover what panties she's wearing. Her hair falls in sexy waves around her shoulders, and her lips are petal pink. One of my arms snags her waist, and I sweep her close for a kiss. She giggles, her hands resting on my chest. There's something about the way she does that, with her small palms sitting over my heart, that make me want to roar like King Kong.
"You look beautiful," I tell her.
She glances down, and a wrinkle forms between her brows. "Is it too much?"
"Not at all." She can dress however she damn well likes. I don't care if she looks better than anyone else there, although I might have to fend off unwanted advances. Every guy in town is going to be crazy with lust once they see her like this. I kiss her again and touch my forehead to hers. "Never seen anything so pretty."
She smiles. Not a big one that lights up her face, but a small, shy one that comes right from her heart. "Thanks. I forgot I had it until I moved here, and it's too nice to leave in the closet." She lays her hand on my arm.
