OLIVIA
"There has to be a way." I threw my hands up. "I have all this power now but can't do anything to help." I paced around Ava's living room like a caged animal. My nerves were shot, and my new powers buzzed under my skin, itching to be unleashed. We'd been brainstorming for hours, trying to find some way to break into Hell and rescue Ava and everyone else stuck there. The whole situation was frustrating, to say the least.
"Oh, Liv," Beth said, her voice soft and sympathetic. "I know you're desperate to help and save them all, but your powers are still new and unpredictable. We need to be cautious when trying to break into Hell."
"Sam, Ava and the others are trapped in literal Hell." Even with all of Luciâs magic, I still couldnât get into Hell. I was starting to understand what my father had felt when he'd been locked out for so long. He'd kept it together remarkably well. It helped that none of us had been trapped there. âI hate not knowing what to do.â Feeling helpless was the worst.
I stopped pacing and turned to look at Ava's mom. Her golden-brown hair fell just past her shoulders, but she had it pulled up. Her light green eyes sparkled with determination. She was right, but it didn't make me feel any less useless. How could I have these extraordinary abilities and still not be able to do anything?
"I know, Beth," I sighed, running a hand through my blonde hair. "It's just, I can't stand feeling so useless, you know? I want to get in there and get something done. Rescue them."
"Of course you do," she replied, giving me a small smile. "But we have to be smart about this, Olivia. If you go charging into Hell with no control over your powers, who knows what might happen?"
I clenched my fists in frustration, my eyes welling up with tears, and glanced around the room filled with books on witchcraft, maps, and scribbled notes. This was freaking overwhelming, all of this crap on me and me alone. John and Beth were helping, but they weren't equipped for magic of this caliber.
As much as I wanted to disagree with Beth, she really was right. I couldn't risk losing control of my powers in Hell and endangering everyone even more.
"Fine," I relented, wiping away a tear. "We'll keep thinking of other solutions, but we've got to hurry. They need us."
"Of course," Beth agreed, placing a hand on my shoulder. "We'll find a way to rescue them, Olivia. I promise."
Determined, I paced around the living room, my eyes darting from one book to another, searching for anything that could help us. The scent of old leather and musty pages filled my nostrils, but it did little to calm my nerves.
"I don't care how risky it is," I insisted, slamming my fist onto a pile of maps, causing them to scatter across the floor. "We have to do something. We can't just sit here and let them suffer.
