Nassau County, the political district in which I’ve found myself, is a kind of aspiring-fascist city-state, and I, being of more democratic character, find I must hold my tongue when politics enters the conversation. Although newcomers are lauded here, and their opinions respected, I have seen too often how infatuation can pale quickly to dislike, if one reveals too much. So I decline English verbs by day, and by night, under the red sun’s shadows here in Highpoint Estates trailer park, I go through one ballpoint pen after another.
