THE DAY OF THE WEDDING
Vira
I have spent the day surrounded by more people than I have ever met in my entire life: hair and makeup artists, photographers, the wedding planner, my two best friends, my overly excited aunts, and my doleful mother. I knew she'd be somber today, but I feel like she's taken it up a notch. I keep waiting for her to whip out a black veil and start singing woeful funeral ballads.
Honestly, she's been a bit much.
I glance over at Sandy and Zella as the makeup artist finishes up my lipstick. They both smile brightly back at me, looking stunning. I was worried Zellaâs satin dresses would be a little uncomfortable for her, but the soft lilac fabric hugs her growing belly so well, and Sandy's impressive curves have never looked better. I'm sure Jesper will be all over her at the reception.
I hope Wynn will be all over me at the reception.
I havenât been able to stop thinking about that kiss last night. It was so intense, I woke up in a puddle of my own slick.
"All done." The makeup artist spins my chair, showing me her work.
I look amazing.
Smoky eyes, rose-colored lips, and perfectly rosy cheeks. I wish I looked this good every day.
"And now the final touch." The hairstylist steps forward with my veil. The french silk netting is detailed with tiny flowers and crystals around the edges, contrasting perfectly with my classic sheath dress.
Once the headpiece is secured, I stand and admire the full effect. My sheath dress, flowing hair, and delicate veil make me feel like a princess. It's cliche, but it's true.
Both Sandy and Zella rush to my side and immediately start gushing over how lovely I am.
They really are my most favorite people in the whole world.
"Your hair is gorgeous like this," Sandy says, cupping the underside of one curl and lifting her hand to make it bounce. "I'm glad you didn't wear it up."
"And your waist is so teeny." Zella cradles her belly with a look of longing on her pretty face.
"You had a teeny waist before this babe," I remind her, poking her middle. "And you'll have a teeny waist once she comes out." I want to lean down and snuggle her properly, but I don't want to leave lipstick kisses all over Zella's dress.
Sandy gives the room a sweeping look, then leans into my ear. "I got that pill you asked for." She discreetly motions to my luggage across the room. "I put it in your makeup bag."
Excitement bubbles inside me. "Thank you so much! I can't believe I forgot to go to the pharmacy, but things have been so crazy."
"Just remember," she warns me, "heat activators can take a few days to kick in. So you might want to take it on the plane."
Zella squeezes my hand, before adding, "It took a full week for mine to kick in, but once it did," she shakes her head as if she can't even find the words. "I'll just say it definitely upped the whole honeymoon experience.
