The Blossom took up a position several hours from the boneyard. Roger rode in with us. This time, Jan brought as much of her equipment as could be carried on a shuttle. My heart sped up as the gunships came into view.

Roger stood from his seat. "Spectacular. Now I understand your eagerness to return. So much wealth and power just sitting out here being unused."

I said, "Unused until now."

Jan walked toward a dressing room to put on her suit. "Let's get on this. Don't want to be caught out here gawking."

Roger replied, "Should be no danger in that, Ms. Hoddle. I sent two scouts out to watch for anything coming from Sirius. We will know of visitors with ample time to leave."

"Good to know, sir."

Roger donned a suit.

I put on my helmet and snapped it into place. "You really want to go aboard?"

"Why wouldn't I? Every boy dreams of one day being on a warship. I toured our official warships. Now I would like to see one as it should be and not made into a palace or resort."

I chuckled. "Nothing resort about these ships, Mr. Massely. These were killing machines and they saw actual action. I just hope they are worth resurrecting."

I turned. "Boyd. Suit up. You're going with us."

We selected our first target to be one with a pristine external hull. I was disappointed when we got inside only to find it appeared to be stripped bare.

I shook my head. "Looks like someone beat us to it."

Jan knelt and looked over a wire bundle. "I don't think so, Ray. Look at this. Nothing was ever installed. I believe this one was under construction. That would answer why the outer hull looks so clean as compared to the pock marks on all the others."

Jan stood. "I think this is our candidate. It has everything but the interior components. Those we can pull from other ships, refurb, test, and install here."

Roger asked, "How much time would you need for such a task?"

"Let's see. The installations look straight forward, so, a day to pull from the other ships, two days to refurb and test, maybe longer depending on condition, and another day to drop them in. The refurb is our biggest risk. Components age. Could be we have to completely replace entire units. If that's the case, we'll have to go back to the Blossom."

Boyd said, "Any refurb is something I could help with."

Jan nodded. "Any help would be appreciated."

Roger glanced at our surroundings. "Mr. Peak. See to it this vessel is detached from that tether. Have it towed back to the Blossom."

Jan said, "It won't fit in our bay, Mr. Massely. Too big."

"No. But you will have your full complement of tools and equipment there to make use of. And we won't be at risk of having to flee at the first sign of a visitor, thereby disrupting our entire operation. Take your crew, Ms. Hoddle, and strip whatever you need from these other ships."

I gave a nod.
