CHAPTER 7
The following morning, Shaneeka was hesitant about taking Tyreeq with her to her new job. Nathaniel had insisted that it would be perfectly fine until she found someone else to care for him, but she still didnât feel comfortable doing it.
Sheâd taken Tyreeq with her everyday to her old place of employment. Since her last job had been at a preschool /daycare, she hadn't felt that taking Tyreeq with her had been out of the ordinary there. Her son had just become one of the kids that she and the other employees at the preschool looked after each day â of course she paid a small weekly fee for the service. But her new job didn't involve looking after kids, so she didn't feel 100% comfortable dragging him along.
âNathaniel is just trying to be nice,â she whispered under her breath as she sped along the interstate towards her destination. âHe canât really be serious about this.â
She shook her head. She couldnât help but admit that the ability to bring her son with her had been a Godsend. Ever since losing her job, she hadnât had the money to put Tyreeq in a daycare facility. So she really hadnât had anyone to babysit him.
She parked her car in the lot outside of Blessed Security Inc and made her way to the building. No need to keep debating everything, weâre here now.
âMorning, beautiful. If you looking for the discount bakery, they in the building beside this one. They next door.â
Shaneeka flashed a tiny smile towards the thug-life looking goon who was standing by the empty receptionist desk thumbing through a bodybuilding magazine. âUm, Iâm actually looking for Nathaniel.â
The man looked between Shaneeka and Tyson and grinned. âBoss done knocked you up, shorty? I thought he said he was leaving chicks alone. Something âbout Jesus and celibacyâ,â he winked his eye, ââ that means not getting any you know.â Then he began nodding his head. âBut boss did good for his self...you cute, shorty.â
It was on the tip of Shaneekaâs tongue to tell whoever this dude was that he had it all wrong, but Nathaniel came out of his office and beat her to it.
âJay, I see you already introduced yourself to our new office manager. I hope you werenât out here talking slick.â He smiled. âSheâs gonna be the one who makes out your schedules. You know how you like trying to squeeze in extra days off. She might not be willing to work with you if you ainât been talking to her right.â
The guy whose name Shaneeka had just learned was Jay chuckled. âMy bad, boss. I thought this was your lady and that was your little soldier she was rolling up in here with.â
If Shaneeka had been white, she wouldâve blushed when Jay had said that. She pushed her feelings of embarrassment aside and said, âMy nameâs Shaneeka. It was good to meet you, Jay.â
Nathaniel took control of the conversation at that point. He looked at Shaneeka and said, âI have a few things I need to talk to Jay about Shaneeka.
