Seven stumbled his way to the maintenance room, practically dragging himself against the walls for at least half of the trip. He hoped that by the time he made it to his destination, Irvis’ machine would’ve picked up what’s wrong with his blood. And everything else with it. He paused at a corner, reaching across his face to scratch furiously at the incessant itching that started to climb up to his ear. As he worked away to sate the irritant, all the hair caught in the crossfire began to rain down like he had the mange.

Looking down at the small rug’s worth of lost follicles, the Captain had to actively stop himself from running his hand over the rest of it. He knew whatever was happening to him would alter his appearance, but how grizzly would it truly be once finished? Chimera was the key to survival, but could it be reversed? If Irvis didn’t have the answers, Ziegler would. Until they got word from Prizrak, Seven had to do everything he could to ensure he wouldn’t break down at the doors of victory.

Finally staggering into the maintenance room, the Captain looked around for what his friend may have left behind. The search didn’t last very long, as right away he spotted an L-shaped contraption lying in wait on the workbench. Pulling out the patchy rolling chair to take a seat, he got a better look at the gift. Seven held a knuckle to his lips as he took in the sight of a mechanical arm, made from the last of the Vanguard drone they pilfered over a month ago.

The slim, skeletal limb was covered in additional tubes, copper wiring, and hose clamps. Three thimble-shaped nodes on the bicep were linked to a trio of metal wires on the knuckles, which also guided the Captain’s eyes to a note pinched between the inactive fingers. He gingerly plucked it from the arm’s grasp and unfolded it. Despite Larry’s own augmentations, his penmanship looked about as tidy as his work. Even so, it was still legible to Seven.
