Chapter Twenty-One: Zara
Zara watched her sister stomp around the camp. Her feet were leaving impressions in the ground and her aura was flaring around her as if she were encased in fire. Atara grabbed all of her things and forced them into her backpack. Ryder was watching her movements from where he stood about ten feet away. After she had spoken with Ryder it felt as though he would be able to break down the walls that Atara had built around her heart.
Apparently not.
It was clear to Zara that Ryder was going to need to break them down brick by brick before she would let him in. Atara was not making it easy for the Hunter by any means. In Zaraâs mind, it was clear that he was not as bad as he seemed. Even though he was a Hunter, a species that were only known for killing supernaturals, he was pining after Atara.
I wish Lucus was here. Maybe his Empath ability would have come in handy to keep Atara in a happier mood.
Zara packed up her own things as quickly as she could. As she put together the final items, she noticed her sister stomping away in the direction they discussed they would take.
âSis, wait up!â
Atara continued as if she did not hear her. Zara growled and flicked her wrist. Her magic flashed yellow and the air shimmered before Atara, causing her to walk right into a barrier. Weird. My magic never lit up in the color of the type of Elemental magic I was using before⦠Zara said to herself.
Zara heard her sisterâs body collide into the barrier with a thud. Atara quickly turned toward her with a look that was pure rage. She even heard her sister growling deeply at her. Her obsidian black magic grew in size flaring around her.
âDo not use your magic against me. I am not in the mood.â
âI donât care if you are in the mood or not. What is wrong with you? Since when you walk away from your problems?â
âExcuse me?â Atara snarled.
âYou heard me.â
âI am not running away from anything!â
âThen what do you call this?â
Atara did not answer. Instead, she turned on her heel and tried to walk away once more. Her movement was answered with another barrier that she had walked into. This time, Zara made it into a dome and kept it in place.
âReally, Atara? I just called you out on your running and you try to do it again?â
âYou donât know what you are talking about!â
âThen explain to me why you are still acting like you hate him? Do you have any idea what that is doing to you? It is like poison within your bond when you reject your mate. Donât you think I know that?â
âYour mate is not the enemy! You are able to have a functional bond with him.â
âRyder isnât the enemy either. The Sorcerer is our enemy. That Shadow Elemental is the enemy. Those who are threatening our people and our realm are our enemy! Not the man that the Goddess chose for you.
