Open the “Personalization” registry key. You’ll need to make a DWORD value that’s new and name it “NoLockScreen.” Once this is created, double click it then enter “1” beside where it says “Value data.” Save and exit. You’ll now no longer have to contend with a lock screen the next time you wake up your computer.
13. Zip files. Zipping files is a way to compress them so they take up less space. It’s especially useful if you want to send them to someone, but it can also be a great way to save yourself some space on your drives. Windows 10 comes with a file zipping and unzipping program standard that you can use without any set-up .
Start by opening up the File Explorer and selecting the files you want to zip. Right click on them and choose “Send to” then “Compressed (zipped) folder.” You’ll be asked to name the Zip file; you can just hit enter to accept the one suggested. You can also drag files directly into an existing Zipped folder.
14. Free up space with Storage Sense. This is an option in Windows for automatically freeing up more space on your disk. It will look through your drives for files that are redundant or not being used, helping you to keep more space free for the things you actually want.
To use it, open your Settings then go into the System menu and select “Storage Sense.” When you toggle it on, it will automatically manage your drives. You can click on the option “Change how we free up space” to alter which kinds of files will be automatically deleted.
15. Mirror your screen. This will only work on computers with WiDi support. If you’re not sure if you have this on your system, just give it a try to see if it works; it’s a quick process and won’t take much effort to test out.
You will also need a Miracast receiver for your TV, which should be plugged into both the TV and a power source. After it’s plugged in, open your Settings on your computer then choose “Devices” followed by “Connected Devices.” Select “Add Device” and choose your Miracast receiver from the list. Your screen will be mirrored on the TV.
16. Take a screenshot. A screenshot is a useful way to document your screen, either for your own records or to share it with someone else. There are a range of uses for screenshots, from getting help with troubleshooting an issue to making a permanent record of a tweet you think someone’s going to delete.
The “Print Screen” button on the upper right of your keyboard will take a screenshot to your clipboard, but you’ll have to paste it somewhere to save or share it. Open Paint (or another graphics editing program) and press Ctrl + V to paste, then save the image. If you only want to take a screenshot of the active window rather than the entire desktop, you can hit Alt + Print Screen, then follow the same steps above.
