19 SAUVETERRE-DE-BÉARN *

Fortified medieval village with cliffs, church and Tour Monréal. Ruined Pont de la Légende is all that remains of three bridges washed away in floods in 1732. Find deep pools at its base or a grassy picnic area and beach 100m upstream by Au Fil de l’Eau. Or cross over to L’Île de la Glère from footbridge downstream. 1.5km upstream RG, off D2936, is superb secret spot – a diving platform on a large rock outcrop, 43.3914, -0.9239.
