Tip #11: It never ever gets easier

There's a myth among some that the higher you go, the easier it gets. This applies to cardio as well as drills and learning techniques. It’s simply not true. No matter what level you are, you should be pushing yourself past your limits. So whether you are out of shape and just starting or celebrating your 10th successive year in training, you should be at the same level of exhaustion at the end of class. Getting in better shape merely means that you have to push yourself harder, not take it easier.

I admire the people in class who, even though they have been at this for a long time, are panting on the edge of passing out and dripping sweat mid-way through class. They push themselves to their absolute breaking point. They don’t care who’s watching, who’s judging, or even if they pass out or puke. They are committed and they are going to give themselves a challenge no matter what. I love being in class with this kind of student. They inspire me and make me want to be my best too.
