It is difficult for me to understand you. Humans. Your notions of self-respect, kindness, and importance. It is difficult for me to grasp your world’s systems. They make no sense to me.

But how would I know? I’ve never been there. I’m merely two hundred Earth years old. Two hundred old, and yet, I’ve seen things most spirits are unaware they even exist.

I am classified as an undefined spirit. Undefined. What does that even mean? It means they don’t know what I can do. It means I don’t know what I can do. But I have yet to find something I can’t do.

I was told my birth was odd and threatening. Let me explain. When a spirit is created, spirits of high hierarchy take their places. The spirit to be born is to have parts of those spirits involved. It is often the case when the spirits involved are chosen based on the desired outcome.

I’m still amazed that Omni took part in my birth. I have to laugh. I’m sure nothing from zim rubbed off on me.

Although I am not a musical spirit, progression and key were chosen and sung for me during my birth. A legend says I took control of my creator spirits while being incomplete, changed the song’s properties, and then released them. None of the spirits there at that moment can recall me doing this. I can’t recall it myself. But I think it’s true. Yggdrasil keeps a close eye on me, and it must be for a reason.

Out of curiosity, I came to Earth. I encountered a portal calling for Lemniscate in the middle of a forest at nighttime. It was my turn to test my hand at taking a life, I thought, but the human that had built the pentacle was someone I ended up protecting.

Purcell knew immediately after I crossed that I wasn’t Lemniscate. I saw a bonfire, and the hues of red, orange, and blue hypnotized me to cross over. That was all I could see besides a few trees and branches near him. Past the shrine’s range, everything was pitch black.

“Who is this?” Purcell said, wearing a cloak with a hood over his head.

I didn’t respond.

“Who is this?” he almost yelled. “You aren’t Lemniscate!”

I saw one spirit next to him.

“Who is this?” Purcell asked zim.

“I do not know zim.”

“I am indeed not Lemniscate,” I said. At this time, I had had no involvement with humans, so the human dialect had not yet influenced my English.

“You are forbidden from hurting this human,” zie said, trying to swell and tower over me.

This human knew us. This wasn’t his first attempt at summoning one of us. I looked over his set-up: a triple pentacle with sigils directed at spirits in my hierarchy. He had failed to include something to specify it was directed at Lemniscate. He thought praying to zim would be enough.

“Here I am risking it all, and I get this shit . . .” Purcell started to pace, waving his arms, muttering.

“Risking it all?” I told zim.
