At that point, the only valid information John had concerning Sandra McPhee, was the fact that she was not registered at the University of Los Angeles. One of his assistants had made the appropriate research and was certain of that conclusion. It was not much but it was starting evidence. If the presumed victim had lied on that point, she probably had lied on other things. They had to keep questioning her, again and again, to discredit her in front of the judge. But, how could they create a doubt? It was proven that the sperm they found on her came from Johnny. All the investigations established, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that there had been sexual activities. However, the tests also exposed the absence of sexual penetration. The hypothesis that she could have abused Johnny while he was asleep was a possibility. If only the tests could indicate at what time Johnny had taken the sleeping pills… that would have been a way out. According to the pathological records, Manou died around ten o’clock at night. If there was an aggression, it had to happen after that time. Otherwise, Manou would have intervened.

“Goddamn!” yelled John. If we could prove that Johnny took his sleeping pills one hour before Manou’s death, we would have a chance.”

“What I would like to know,” said Johnny, “is the identity of the person who hit this Sandy McPhee. I can’t believe she did it to herself.”

“On that point, Johnny, you are right, approved John. “Only a man can hit with such strength. The doctors established that some strikes were launched that night. That means that the girl had an accomplice and that he was in the house.”
