It’s important to listen to your body when deciding whether you need to run or rest. Ignoring its signals can hinder your recovery.

If you have a cold that is limited to head symptoms you can try a run—sometimes movement can bring you some relief.

Don’t run if:

You have a fever

You have a severe cold with chest symptoms

You have a viral infection

You’re taking antibiotics

You have any sort of intestinal distress

If any of these apply, rest and let yourself heal. Prescription medicines, especially antibiotics, may need to run their course through your body before you can restart your regular training program. The same advice goes for any sort of intestinal distress. It takes a few days for your body to get back in sync—just remember this when you return to your workouts.
