Chapter Seventeen
Dane
âGood morning, what can I get you?â
Blue eyes widened and flashed instant interest when they took in their barista.
âWell, hello, gorgeous. Iâll have a large coffee, black with a side of stud muffin.â
I looked at the redhead in front of me in shock for a moment before bursting out in laughter at the blatant appraisal.
âOriginal. I like that. Hereâs a coffee and a chocolate chip muffin, on the house.â
I winked at her, not as a show of interest, but just an acknowledgement of appreciation. Great looking girl, but something told me she was put in my path for something different than a romantic relationship. Plus, I had a feeling she would be too much to handle.
I felt my phone vibrate in my back pocket and pulled it out to see a text message from my brother.
Hey, asshat, howâs it hanging? Is it hanging anymore? Has it shriveled up or fallen off due to lack of attention?
Phoenix.
I shook my head at my phone and laughed some more.
Damn, in the last five minutes I laughed more than I had in the last five months. All because of some gorgeous redheaded stranger and my freak of a brother.
Wait a minute.
âRed, are you single?â
She grinned openly and easily, her eyes filled with the humor of a thousand untold jokes. I could feel a twinge in my stomach, and honestly about a foot or so lower, looking at her eyes. I would happily take her out, show her a great time, and then bring her back to my house to explore every inch of what appeared to be a perfectly wonderful body. But, I had a feeling that there was someone she would be ideally suited for.
âSure am, coffee boy, where and when?â
I put my hands up in mock surrender, unable to contain my laughter once again. Jesus Christ, she was the female version of my brother. I absolutely loved the fact that she was willing to be so outgoing and forward sexually. So many women seemed to be afraid of judgement for just being themselves in public, like theyâd be called a whore or something. Fuck, it was refreshing as hell. Iâd rather know what a person was really thinking, instead of getting fed a non-stop flow of sanitized thoughts and words, only to find out down the road that I was with a complete stranger.
âSorry, my love, youâre a cool drink of iced coffee that is just a touch too strong for my palate. You would probably end up ruining me for all others, and Iâm not ready for that yet. However, my brother, Phoenix just might need you in his life.â
She shrugged, obviously not too disappointed that she and I just wouldnât happen and leaned forward on the counter.
âWell, darlinâ if you are proof of the magic your parents performed, Iâd be more than interested to meet this brother of yours.â
I smiled at her and tapped out a message to my brother, telling him to get his ass to the QB2 stat.
