The next day, Conner went off to “King of Kings”. He said goodbye to his sister and to Daisy, hugging her for what seemed to her like a surprisingly long time. Daisy wondered if Alex had noticed.

Daisy left soon afterwards to take the train home. As she stared out of the carriage window, the rain started to fall again. She remembered Conner’s confidence about the fact that it wasn’t going to rain on his event. She was almost sorry to see the raindrops, but she had much more faith in the hardships and disappointments of life than in a God who may or may not turn up and do what people asked for. It was another reason, maybe the reason why she dared not believe: there was enough disappointment in her life already.

As her train pulled into the station, she noticed that the rain had in fact, been a brief shower, and the clouds now seemed to be breaking up.
