Stream. Cross the stream and continue straight ahead. The path climbs steeply at first, then contours around into the rocky valley of the ephemeral stream, the Ruisseau du Roget.
Ruisseau du Roget. Cross the stream and continue straight ahead. After a steep section the path curves around to the right and the gradient eases, leading up to the Col de la Seigne, which is the Franco–Italian border.
TP11 Col de la Seigne. There is a border stone and a large cairn to mark your entry into Italy, but there isn’t any formal border infrastructure. Along the border at roughly 100m intervals are the ruins of old fortifications. You won’t be paying attention to the border though, as towering above is your first view of the majestic Italian side of Mont Blanc. The scale is vast, with a vertical drop of over 3000m from the summit to the valley floor. Continue straight ahead to descend eastwards into Italy; the trail takes you past a building, La Casermetta.
La Casermetta. This is a small environmental education centre; in case of a storm it can be used for shelter. Continue down the path, and you will cross a bridge a reach a path junction.
Path junction next to stream. Visible up to your left are Les Pyramides Calcaires, a limestone intrusion that is a marked difference to the red granite of the Mont Blanc massif behind them. Continue straight ahead, passing some ruined buildings at Tza de la Blanche. In the alpage you will see piles of stones that look like dinosaur eggs. They’re nothing of the sort, merely the farmers clearing land to allow grasses and flowers to grow to feed their herds. Continue along the path until you arrive at the ruined buildings at Lex Blanche.
