Later that morning, the group went to Sandy Shores Island minus Kristy who had to work.

A few hours ago, Zack had been making love with Birdie. It bugged him that she slipped away without saying goodbye. Still, her sassy attitude hadn’t changed this morning, so he assumed things were cool.

Zack watched her sign her jet ski rental agreement while humming some upbeat song. “We get three hours, right?”

“That’s correct.” The clerk nodded.

Birdie put on a life vest covering up that bare stomach where his hands and mouth had explored. He fought off a groan and stepped up to the counter to sign his own rental agreement.

Holding the key in his hand, he walked out. Jet skis lined the shore. Several feet away Granny and Myrtle were doing donuts. Leave it to these older ladies to start the fun. Dusty sped up and joined the women. Garrett revved his engine and took off with Josie clinging to his waist.

Birdie hopped on her jet ski. He couldn’t keep his eyes off her legs hugging the seat. Those same legs had been wrapped around him as she cried out his name.

Not a good time to sport wood. Not in front of everyone. Better focus on the sky or ground beneath his feet.

“You all right?” Mia tapped him on the shoulder. Due in another month, her knit dress showed her large baby bump.

“Just dandy.” He’d been caught gawking—at Birdie.

“You like her.”

“We’re just hanging out.” He’d thought about saying they were just friends, but after last night that would be an outright lie.

He had no idea why Mia tilted her head and her lips twitched down.

“What?”

“Wish I could join you.” Mia folded her hands on top of her stomach.

“Next time.” Zack buckled his last strap on his vest more than ready to catch up to the others. Seconds later he turned on the ignition, twisted the throttle, and jerked forward.

“I saw that.” Birdie circled in front of him. “You need some pointers?”

“Not at the moment,” he smoothed out his ride and sped up. Driving a jet ski was pretty much like driving a motorcycle. He followed her across the waterway toward the island in the middle of the inlet and admired her skill. Yep. He had it bad.

“This is a good spot to do 360’s.” She sped around and around.

If she could do it, why couldn’t he? After about ten circles, he got dizzy, took his hand off the throttle, and watched Birdie. He liked a woman that didn’t get frazzled at the least little thing. No drama with her. She was all about enjoying the moment.

She looped around and slowed next to him. “You give up.”

“Nope. Just enjoying the view.”

She put her hand above her eyes. “Garret and Josie are coming this way.”

His friend moved next to Birdie with Josie on the back of their double Seadoo.

“What’s up, bro?” Birdie asked.

“Myrtle wants everyone to race. Mia said she’ll judge. You guys in?” Garrett tilted his head.

“Sure,” Birdie said without hesitation.

“Me, too.” Zack might be a newbie here but that wouldn’t stop him from winning.
