Seth sat at his desk, eyeing the phone in his hands for a long while after December had said goodbye. He hated that she sounded so disappointed. Whenever she’d spoken about the festival her eyes had lit up. Once upon a time he’d been responsible for making her eyes light up like that . . . but that was a long time ago. He hadn’t counted on the backlash against the abattoir impacting on December. That wasn’t fair. It also wasn’t fair that she sounded so damn exhausted. He hated that she worked so hard. And it was killing him trying to concentrate on his business in the city when all he wanted to do was get back there and find an excuse to spend more time around her.

He stood up and walked across to the window. He had to fix it. But how? As he watched the clouds float across the sky an idea began to form. Maybe there was a way to kill two birds with the one stone. In the window he caught his reflection and gave a grim twist of his lips.
