Thank you for reading our books and allowing us a chance to do what we love.

Create stories!

As I become an “old man” in this industry (I put air quotes around that because I’m not even five years old yet in this industry. I have a way to go yet. On the other side of that coin, I’ve been involved in hundreds of stories being published, so I’ve done a lot in a compressed time.)

Anyway, as a publishing five-year-old, I look back at the challenges when writing, and it seems like you have the perfect storm to confound your writing…

Every week.

It might not be children, but it could be an unexpected job, sickness, a friend coming into town, a holiday you forgot about (“Really, Thanksgiving is here so soon?”) Similar to Peter, I’ve done (for me almost but not quite) 20,000 words in a day.

Unlike Peter, I NEVER intend to do that again if I can help it.

That effort taxed me enough that my body wants to shrink in terror at how much mental toil it took to make that happen. I have a hearty “Good-on-ya!” for Peter for 40,000 words in a weekend and the desire to do 20,000 again sometime in the future.

May he find the time with his children to write and cherish their memories. For myself, I didn’t start really writing until our kids were juniors or so in high school and they weren’t very needy with their time.

They had friends. Therefore I had time.

Now, all of our kids are out of the house, living their lives in another state. It’s a weird part of my life with no children. Not better, not worse, but certainly quieter. I worry often, but there is nothing to be done about it.

Why didn’t anyone bother telling me that AFTER they left the house, it wasn’t over?

Like the characters in our books, our children have minds (and opinions) of their own. Whether they are two and throwing a fit when they don’t like our no or twenty and just don’t tell us what they are doing, both children and characters often go their own ways.

Keep going, Peter. Parenting both your children and your characters is a fulfilling career. I’m waiting for when my characters start asking for Christmas presents.

Enjoy life, folks!
