Aven was ecstatic. He gazed across the armory with the rest of his team eager to see the spoils of battle.

“Let’s see,” Gerard said while rubbing his hands together. “What are our options: an MR-111 proton pistol, a Hypershock rail gun, a DC-405 heavy repeating blaster…”

“Don’t forget about the blasted plasma grenade that killed us,” Aven added.

“Right,” Gerard said with a chuckle. “We can’t forget about that. Aminah what was that thing you used at the end?”

“It said it was a laser enforcer,” she replied shyly. “I’m just glad it could penetrate the reinforced window.”

“That would be the F-5 laser enforcer,” the armory attendant amended.

Aminah and Hansen both selected proton pistols as their awards. They were smaller and more manageable in a fight. Surprisingly enough, Zelani selected a set of plasma grenades, which she intended to sell in Market Chamber. Dagon opted for the heavy repeating blaster, which Aven found a bit ridiculous.

“When are you ever going to be able to use that?” Aven pressed. “It’s been years since Splicers found themselves in a warzone where something like that would be remotely useful.”

The six of them looked like they were heading into battle as they carried their loot through halls toward their rooms.

“You’ll thank me if ever such an opportunity arises,” Dagon replied. “Besides, that rail gun was worthless in the simulation.”

“Only because you shot the place to spacing bits,” Aven said as he looked down the scope of his new Hypershock rail gun. “This thing will blast through most shields.”

“Your brother has much more sense,” Dagon said. “That laser enforcer can penetrate durasteel starship armor.”

Gerard smiled, and shrugged.

“It burns out a power pack after only two shots,” Aven said. “Even Dagon’s ridiculous repeater was a better option. Come on, Gerard, maybe there’s still time to pick something else. ”

“It won us the simulation,” Gerard said. “Only seemed right that one of us should choose it. Besides, once we have our totems, we’re not going to have a lot of use for these anyway.”

Aven grimaced. Splicer’s acquired totems when they qualified as Battle Spanners. His hypershock might be the only weapon he’d ever acquire, but he kept that to himself. Nothing could dampen his mood tonight. Jopec had complimented him. Technically, she had complimented everyone, but he didn’t care. He still couldn’t span to save his life, and he only had a few more months to learn, but every day he felt as though he were getting stronger. Who knew what abilities future quests might unlock for him.
