Chapter Seventeen
Davis raised his arm and knocked on Allieâs front door again. It was early, but it was Saturday, dammit, and she knew he did the lawn early on Saturdays. He glanced at the trusty little Forrester parked in her driveway where her Mercedes was usually parked and pounded the door harder. Who the hell was over this early in the morning?
After their hot and heavy encounter in the kitchen yesterday, Davis had gone home and taken a long, cold shower until he could think straight. Even then he had laid awake most of the night thinking about how her soft, pink lips parted for him, how her full hips had felt in his grip, and how heâd wanted to pull her off the chair and onto his lap more than take his next breath of air. Shit. By morning his raging hard-on had transformed into a raging headache, and he had come to his senses.
She was damn complicated.
He raised his hand to knock again just as the door flung open and Allie stood in front of him with her arm shielding her eyes.
âWhaââ she whispered, rubbing her eyes.
He froze, one arm up, his fist poised to knock again, and his other hand balancing a drink caddy with four steaming drinks. His eyes leveled directly on her face, scrubbed free of makeup, and her sleep-mussed swirl of honey hair, and herâoh, shit.
Her round, full, unbound breasts still swayed with the momentum of having opened the door, and his mouth snapped closed with an audible click when he caught sight of her pink nightgown. It was one of those lacy things with little straps that bared her delicate shoulders and collarbone. His eyes trailed down and stopped.
The nightgown dipped in around the full curves of her breasts and each pointed tip of her nipples stood out clearly against the fine material. The nightie fell to mid-thigh and her slim legs and feet were bare. Oh, Jesus. Did she have anything on under that? The sudden primitive urge to hide her from anyone elseâs eyes was so strong he was moving before he realized it.
âCome here,â he said gruffly. Using his one free arm, he hooked her to the side where she wasnât visible to anyone from the street.
âDavis? What are you doing here?â She still looked sleepy and tousled and too damn appealing in his arms.
âItâs Saturday morning.â
âIt is?â She still looked confused.
âWhereâs your car?â
She rubbed her eyes with both hands. âI sold it.â Her hair fell in a tousled mass of curls over her face, and he fought the urge to push it behind her shoulder. No. No more touching.
âYou sold your Mercedes for that?â He eyed the car in the driveway in disbelief.
She grinned, all tousled and so damn beautiful âYeah, isnât it cute? Itâs more me. What are you doing here?â
âItâs Saturday. Iâm here to do the yard work.â He nudged her gently toward the stairs. âGo back upstairs and get dressed.â
She blinked at him and turned to head up the stairs.
