CHAPTER EIGHT
Demeko Smith
âDid all of that make sense? I know I just threw a lot at you but let me know if Iâm going too fast.â I said to Tink.
Since sheâd expressed needing a job that would accommodate DJ, I took it upon myself to hire her for the office manager position. I needed this positioned filled for the second Mekoâs location so why not hire her for it. It took a good two weeks for me to clean the mess Tameka had made. It wasnât horrible, but the shit was unorganized. That irritated me because it meant my numbers for that store were all fucked up. Thereâd been a couple of days this past week that Iâd made it home well after business hours. The shop was solely my responsibility when it came down to it, so if I didnât make sure things were good, no one would.
Since the manager position didnât require a physical presence all the time, I figured Tink would be the perfect fit for the job. She could work from home, and on the days she did come into the shop, DJ could come with her. That alone was what sold her. She would be making money without the hassle of trying to find a daycare she trusted. Even if that was route she chose to go, the cost would be covered.
Fuckinâ with me, Tink wouldnât even remember what the hell a wallet was. Unless she was digging for her license or some damn lip gloss, she wouldnât be sticking her hand in no damn purse around me. I had all this money, and outside of Sabrina, I finally had people to spend it on.
âYes, everything makes sense.â She replied once she was done writing in the notebook she was carrying around.
âFollow me to the back so I can put your fingerprint in for the safe.â
My last manager didnât have access to my safe, only access to deposit. Since I trusted Tink and knew where she lived, I had no problem adding another task to her list of duties. I had feelings for Tink before we had sex, but after she allowed me to taste and stroke her, my senses had heightened where she was concerned. Iâd never so much as shown a woman a lot of attention, yet here I was, being a simp for woman Iâd just met. Before Sabrina left back to school, she asked me if I loved Tink. She informed me that love didnât have a timeframe or rules when I told her it was too soon for me to say if I loved Tink.
The truth was, I already knew I did, and it scared me. My mother was the first woman I loved, and that ended badly. It was because of her that I had no trust in women. Before my grandmother passed away, she gave me Robynâs address and phone number. When I was released from the detention center and my grandparents told me that Robyn and Gavin were gone for good, I knew they had to know something about their whereabouts.
