He destroyed the pods, then rounded on the last.

He didn’t get a chance to destroy this one.

The pod snapped open, and someone thrust out.

It was Shera.

His brain had just one second to recognize her before she was upon him.

She latched one of her powerful hands around his arm and pulled him to the side.

She ripped him right off his feet and threw him towards the wall.

Before he slammed into it, he had just enough time to change his angle, ensuring his arm and shoulder took the brunt of the blow.

It was enough to ensure he didn’t black out.

He dropped to his knees, rolled, and pushed back.

Shera walked towards him, her hands clutched into tight fists, her gaze locked on his. She shifted her lips to the side, the stiff skin grating over her teeth. “You idiot,” she screamed. “I should have killed you first.”

“Don’t get ahead of yourself, Shera,” he managed as he darted back, firing at the floor by her feet.

“You stood in my way and protected that useless priestess. You’re going to pay, Hunter McClane,” she spat through those stiff white lips as she suddenly lurched to the floor and smashed one rolled up fist into it.

The blow was so powerful that it sent a shuddering reverberation pushing through the metal.

Hunter was thrown from his feet.

He scrambled to the side, trying to gain purchase, trying to push himself up.

Shera was upon him.

She wrapped a hand around his throat and wrenched him to his feet.

“I’m gonna pull your head off your body and throw it at the feet of your brother,” she hissed.

Then she started to pull.

Warning alarms blared through Hunter’s helmet, a red flash appearing over the viewscreen.

He clutched at her arms, even dug the armored fingers of his gauntlet into her skin.

But there was nothing he could do.
