Far From Over

Sarah and her team slouched up the boarding ramp of the Daedelus, defeated. As they stepped onto the bridge, Chelsea was beside the ComTable, pacing back and forth.

“Are you okay?” Sarah asked.

“I heard a loud noise and got woken up. When I came out, everyone was gone. I looked over and saw the building on fire through the window and was worried something had happened to you.”

Sarah peeked around the room, ensuring no stragglers had followed them onto the ship. She sat down in one of the chairs beside the ComTable and buried her head into her hands. “We had him, but now, he’s gone again.”

“Jarnu?” Chelsea asked, placing her hand on Sarah’s back.

Sarah lifted her head and nodded as tears streamed down her face. She was so close to bringing her friend back home, but now, her entire world was shattered.

Maybe I’m not cut out this!

“I say we go find him!” Lieutenant Pilar explained.

“Find him where?” Hitari asked. “We have no lead on where they went.”

“We could contact the Delegation, have them initiate an investigation,” Iris said.

“I’m sorry, but Jarnu is missing,” Lieutenant Pilar replied. “We don’t have time for their petty deliberations.”

“What are you suggesting, Lieutenant?” Sarah asked, slamming her hand down on the table, annoyed by all the chatter.

The mountain started to shake as fire erupted out of the top spire of the prison. Sarah stood up and walked to the other side of the room to collect her thoughts while the others bickered back and forth about what they should do. Standing by the window thinking, Sarah couldn’t help but notice the destruction they had caused.

She was horrified. In just a matter of minutes, Sarah had brutally killed a defenseless man, and not long after, a member of her team had sentenced the guards inside the prison to death by setting it ablaze and pinning them inside.

A few moments later, Colonel Pieklyn climbed up the ladder to the bridge from the living quarters and gathered with the team by the ComTable.

“Was the mission a success?” Colonel Pikelyn asked before sipping from his glass of Runeshine.

Everyone paused and stood there in silence as Sarah walked back to the ComTable. Colonel Pikelyn looked away, acknowledging the elephant in the room.

Walking over to the Pilot Chamber, Colonel Pikelyn asked, “so, where to now, then?”

Lieutenant Pilar started to speak up, but before the words left his mouth, Sarah said, “travel back to Phodaria. The team is injured, and we need some rest.”

Looking at Lieutenant Pilar, Sarah added, “I will communicate your concerns to the Delegation, but we need to consult them on this. We have no idea what the state of affairs for the Order is at this time, and with
