‘Thank you. Have a lovely day.’ Sadie smiled as a family of castle tourists left the shop, pinning their lavender posies onto their coats.

‘I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, that’s some mean marketing you’ve done there linking to the castle’s theme of the time.’ Melissa pushed Sadie’s coffee mug across towards her before resting her elbows on the counter and her chin on her hands.

‘Why, thank you.’ Sadie grinned. ‘Are you actually comfortable like that?’

‘Not really. You need to get a bar stool or something so I can perch in a bit more comfort.’

‘That’s actually not a bad idea. I’ll have a look on the local selling pages.’

‘Awesome. I’ll take a look too.’ Melissa pulled her mobile from her back pocket and set it down on the counter. ‘Sooo?’

‘So?’

‘So, how are things with you and Alex going?’ Tilting her head, Melissa looked at Sadie and laughed. ‘I knew it! You’ve got that soppy smile on your face at the mere mention of his name! Things are going well, I assume?’

Sadie held the palms of her hands against her cheeks. ‘I don’t know what you mean! Yes, things are going well.’

‘And…’

‘And what?’

‘Details! I want some details.’

Sadie shrugged. ‘There’s not much to tell, just that I’m really happy. He makes me happy. He’s the first person since me and Max split up that I’ve actually thought I might be able to make a future with. I don’t know if it’s because I already know him, so I haven’t got that niggling worry about whether he’s safe or has a history of being an armed robber or anything, but it feels good. The girls love spending time with him and he always goes the extra mile too. Like he took us behind the scenes in the castle and had brought hot chocolate for us all.’

‘Aww, that’s really sweet.’

‘It is. He is.’ Sadie picked up her coffee mug, wrapping her hands around the warm ceramic. ‘I’m not getting my hopes up though, I know it’s super early days and we’re probably only getting on so well because we used to be good friends, so it all might just turn out to be a friendship rather than anything else.’

‘Girl! Stop that! You always put a dampener on everything.’

‘I’m just being realistic. I don’t want to get my hopes up and get my heart broken, that’s all.’

‘And that’s the problem with you and relationships. You never jump, you need to trust and jump in. Let’s be honest, you’re smitten already so if things don’t work out you’re likely to get your heart broken anyway. So it’s no different if you trust him and jump in. The only difference is that it’s more likely to work if you let him in.’

‘I guess so.’

‘You know so. Yes, a lot of the guys you’ve dated since breaking up with Max have been complete weirdos, but a couple haven’t. Think about Matthew, for example, he was nice, really sweet, but you didn’t let him in and he got fed up of waiting.
