“Celebrate your successes. Find

A man wove through the throng. He shouted, “Make way! Most urgent!” His white hair, close-trimmed beard, tidy clothes, and tall stature distinguished him with an air of authority. People sidestepped and bowed. A bevy of assistants followed the trail he blazed through the crowd. They dressed in yellow smocks and carried red satchels. He brushed past the General, Mack, and Kastan.

The Regeana stepped back and nodded as he passed her. He returned a bow, saying, “Surgery detained me. I came as soon as possible,” and then strode to Bibianna, taking no notice of Aurykon.

“Tell me of your injuries,” he said with a stern tone. “Are you harmed?”

“Sur Flaminion, I did not suffer wounds of any significance.”

He grasped her head—one hand at the back of her neck and cupped her cheek with the other. He examined the bruise on her forehead. “What of this blow? How did you receive it?”

“I do not know. It happened while I was unconscious, perhaps while being transported. It is nothing. I do not need aid.”

The scene before Mack flummoxed him. Huh? Men can’t touch the Princess, but this dude is pawing her face. What gives?

“Return to the hospital for a proper examination,” the newcomer said.

“Nay, Merco!” Bibianna stomped her foot. “I will not! I am home and refuse to leave. Would you have me kidnapped a second time this day?”

Kastan stepped into the debate. “Merco, you intend for her to be safe, and we appreciate your concern. However, she has recovered. Indeed, her demeanor is returning to the usual fierce independence we all cherish. She is best left here with us.” The Rex winked and embraced his daughter. “A father’s hug is the most potent medicine for her.”

The man sighed. “As you wish, Kastan. I have misgivings.” He pointed to the Princess. “Bibi, report any symptoms of distress immediately.”

She bowed.

“Merco,” Kastan said, grasping the man’s arm. “I must introduce you to Minauria’s new hero.” He led him to Mack. “Sur Merco Flaminion, I present Maque G’Tomas, a Light Crossing traveler, Bibianna’s rescuer, our guest and valiant brother.”

Sur Flaminion bowed. “I am most privileged, Seignistor, and eternally grateful for your service to Princess Bibianna and Minauria. I pray all your mortal moments overflow with joy.”

Mack bowed as Kastan continued the introduction. “Seignistor G’Tomas, Sur Flaminion is our Regal family physician and the nation’s Chief Medical Advisor. Should you need curative attention during your stay, I have asked Merco to make sure you return to good spirits.”

“I am honored to meet you.” Mack thought he now understood why this man had special “princess touching” privileges. “I apologize for my ignorance of your norms, but I am confused. Is ‘Sur’ your name or a title?”

Kastan replied, “Such is a title identifying him as a medical practitioner. ‘Sur’ is an abbreviation of surgeon. Merco is our finest. Besides being a member of my Advisory Council, he continues to practice at our Mestosveta Hospital.
