My eyes hunted for the phrase ‘perfect for the recently abandoned aging woman.’ By the time I reached the end of the article, all my hopes were dashed.

Damned PFEM, I thought. Julie and Brian had bonded over this blasted corporation a mere twenty-some-odd hours ago. Perhaps they were still bonding over it, Julie breathlessly chanting the company motto as Brian exhaustively prepped her for the upcoming shareholders’ meeting.

When I saw Marianne studying me, I forced a smile to hide my building resentment toward this society that so thoroughly disregarded the needs of maturing wives and focused instead on the needs of maturing produce.

And why the big hoopla over such a product anyway? This Calvin Preser was obviously delusional. When had a revolution ever revolved around fruit? Why couldn’t these companies do something that really improved our quality of life? Instead of StaRipe, the anti-rotting spray, there should be StaRipe, the breast-firming spray. And what idiot named their agricultural company PFEM? The name itself suggested a feminine-deodorant niche or something similar. That was just plain false advertising.

And where were the references to the vicious locusts PFEM should be out controlling?

Corporate bastards. I tossed the paper onto the floor, ignoring the glare Beth shot in my direction. When would a useful product like anti-gravity bosom sprays hit the market anyway? Somebody had better hurry up. I’d be turning thirty in four short months. My breasts wouldn’t maintain this consistency much longer.
