TOBY WAS WAITING FOR her promptly at three, outside the ballroom. “Hello, beautiful.” He took her hand and brushed his lips across it. Everything else vanished, the ship and Charming Hearts and any lingering doubts about how amazing this man could make her feel.

“Hi.”

“Sleep well?”

Like you wouldn’t imagine, she wanted to answer.

He pulled open the wide ballroom doors. “This should be fun.”

Lou wasn’t sure fun was the first word she’d use to describe what they were about to do, but she reminded herself that this cruise was about abandon and no second thoughts. They joined three other couples inside the giant room. The tall, dark-haired dance instructor stood on stage in the front.

“Come closer.” He waved both hands and beckoned them forward. “I will not bite. Welcome to your ballroom dance lesson!”

Lou let out a long breath and crossed her fingers behind her back. Please don’t let me make a fool of myself. Taking a dance lesson together had been Toby’s idea, and last night she would have agreed to just about anything he suggested, but now she wondered if she’d made a colossal mistake. Yet another thing Terrell had constantly pointed out was her two left feet.

Stop thinking about Terrell.

“My name is Sebastian, and I have been dancing for over fifteen years,” their instructor said in a heavy accent. “I am from Argentina, but I have been with the Spirit of the Sea for six months. It is a beautiful ship, no?”

They all nodded. Toby took Lou’s hand. “I don’t give a damn what the ship looks like,” he murmured close to her ear. “But this view is pretty amazing.” He ran one finger down her cheek, and Lou melted all over again.

“...easy and romantic,” Sebastian was saying. “First we will begin with the waltz...”
