He didn’t love her. No word about it. Not that she had ever imagined how she wished her marriage proposal to be, but if she had, this certainly wouldn’t have occurred to her. Jeez, what was it about love? Love was completely overrated anyway! He promised her more than she had ever dreamed of. He gave her so much, and at the same time so little. And yet, she could hardly imagine a life without him and Lori. She had never laughed so warmly … and cried so much. She had known the answer right from the beginning.

‘Yes, I will marry you,’ Bell said firmly. ‘To make this clear, I’m doing it for Lori and because I’m a little bit keen on your body.’

Chris smiled relieved and lifted her up in his arms. They sealed their agreement with a hot kiss.

It somehow left a stale aftertaste because Bell deserved more than he could give her, but he immediately repressed this thought. She asked him to leave her alone. Chris was reluctant to go, but this time he understood her desire for privacy. He hugged her one last time, and the door closed behind him with a soft ‘click.’
