Concentration is focused on the body for long intervals of uninterrupted time while practicing the form. As one tries to relax and keep all of the above mentioned in mind, one begins to notice that there is tension in this shoulder or that joint: this knee is not bent and that elbow is. Then one changes incorrect practice, that is, external body tension, which is a symptom of internal mental tension. The body and mind learn to be more relaxed and calm. Thus, Tai Chi Chuan has been employing Skinnerian methods of “behavior modification” thousands of years before Skinner.

Jung had an altogether different concept of man's psyche. He was able to portray this as a diagram of a cross within the circle. The cross is an ancient symbol of consciousness and the circle is the Eastern mandala which represents the psyche.
