14 - There are no limits

Cody met up with his parents at Joe Hatton's cabin. After giving Joe the password, all four of them drove up to the bank and presented the key to a safety deposit box. Inside was a single document. The deed to the cabin.

Taking that and the will, they all went to see the lawyer, Derrick Jenson, a childhood friend of Joe's.

"You're still a minor," said Jenson, "But we can put it in a trust if you want. Since Joe is the executor and you know the password, this is, as far as I'm concerned as legitimate as it gets. Even so, let's put all the paperwork in order."

"Sounds good," said Hank, before his son could answer. "Trust me, Cody," he said, putting a hand on the boy's shoulder. "You're going to need help with property taxes and such."

"That's all covered," said Cody. "But all the same, I can wait."

"How exactly is it covered?" asked his mom.

Joe smiled. "If I know Cletus, there was enough rat-holed away in that cabin to set your son up for years."

"Decades," said Cody. "Heck, maybe even centuries."

"Don't tell me he stuffed his mattress with money," said Derrick Jensen.

"No, the mattress was full of feathers," said Cody. "But I think the only thing he trusted the bank with was the deed." The boy grinned. "I found plenty of cash, sure. But it's the collections he had that we need to secure."

"Well now I'm just curious," said Hank. He looked to Joe and Derrick. "You boys want to drive us all up there or what?"

"Sure." Joe laughed. "And here I was thinkin' I had the corner on collectibles."
