“Building a ladder to the stars?”

Thank you to everyone keeping these threads alive. It’s easy to feel like ur the last person in the world, well, I guess the Stargazers still count as people. Or do they? There’s other threads with guesses as to why and how, but I am focused on what. What are they doing now? I guess I’m somewhat of a practical person. There’ll be time (or maybe not!) later to figure out why. Why doesn’t keep me and my cats safe. (BTW, I let out every cat and dog I could find in my neighborhood. Most of them followed me home and I guess I didn’t really think that part thru.)

This morning, before it got light out, I put on my investigator’s cap and my gumshoe boots. I climbed inside my (another word for detective, did I miss any?) car and took a drive. They aren’t hard to follow. Steady stream of humanity leaving everything they knew behind. I don’t fault them for it. I’m just glad I’m not one of them. (For now) Also, there was some local drone footage on the news the day before everything went to shit. Unless they’d moved from there I knew where to go.

The toughest part was not running them over. The path went off-road and my (whatever that detective word is I can’t think of) car isn’t exactly built for it. I was close enough to reach out and touch them for much of the trip. So sad.

I didn’t realize it while driving, only when I stopped, but many of them had tools and other supplies. I think the early videos of Stargazers kinda created an image in my mind. Just, you know, a human being whose higher functions had been shut off. Just walking.

I parked and watched. It was an open field. I think in the drone shots there were some trees, but those were gone. Couldn’t guess how many of them were out there, but they weren’t just standing around. Some were, those on the outskirts. I climbed on the hood of my car but couldn’t see much.

But I could hear it.

It was like walking past an active construction zone times a lot.

I didn’t feel comfortable entering the crowd. Could you imagine all of them turning their attention on you at the same time? Ugh, gives me chills.

Sorry if the title of this seemed like a bait and switch. I have no idea if they’re building a ladder to the stars. Seems impractical, but I did see one of them attempt to demolish a post office with his bare hands. Final score for that encounter: Bricks 1 Stargazer 0.

What could they be building? Any guesses? If anyone says Taco Bell I’m deleting this thread!!!
