Chapter 6: Unveiling the Past

Li Sheng, under the guidance of the map provided by Takeshi, stumbled upon a nondescript entrance shrouded in foliage. A sense of ancient history hung thickly in the air. He pushed through the age-worn doors only to be greeted by a dimly lit labyrinth of endless shelves, filled to the brim with scrolls that wore their age proudly.

"Wonderful, another test from Takeshi," Li Sheng breathed out, suppressing his initial dread with burgeoning curiosity as he traced his fingers over the soft texture of parchments and inkstone scrolls meticulously stored on every surface.

In search of a clue amidst countless parchments, he reached out, selecting a parchment at random. Unfurling it carefully, his eyes were greeted by elegant calligraphy, illustrating detailed accounts of an ancient war. His heart pounded with anticipation as his eyes darted across the paragraphs.

"Impossible." He muttered aloud; his voice echoed hauntingly as he continued to read. The scroll narrated an era when Xianxia and Isekai realms coexisted, waged in apocalyptic war. Destruction and chaos were the norm until the emergence of a peace-seeking faction. Believing in harmonious coexistence rather than conflict, they separated from their conflicted brethren and created the Isekai realm as their haven.

Li Sheng stood dumbstruck, his mind racing to process this revelation. "How could I have not known about this," he whispered, pacing back and forth in the intricately tiled floor of the library.

From a shadowed corner of the library emerged Shinji, a marionette dancing beside him under the flickering glow of the lanterns. "The past is like shadows," he smiled knowingly at Li Sheng's shock. "Sometimes, it takes an outsider's eye to see what's hidden in plain sight."

In that moment, their alliance took on a deeper meaning. It was not a simple collaboration for their survival. As Li Sheng returned to the scroll, Shinji watched the unfolding determination painting his former rival's features under the dim lights. Everything fell into place, and the past unveiled itself to two men determined to turn the tide of their shared destinies in a realm born from hope, now teetering on the edge of chaos.
