orking in a bikers’ bar turned out to be a torture.

No, not because of the bikers. They’re alright. Noisy but funny and they leave fat tips.

Not because of the girls walking around semi-naked either. You get used to it and they’ve all been nice to me. They like it that I usually remember who’s waiting which table. For some reason, they trust me to settle disputes.

Zoe and Rider, the bartenders, are great.

The true torture is to walk around Liam and ignore him.

Or try to.

Because my traitorous body gives me away all the time.

His presence triggers goosebumps down my arms, and his voice has a direct connection to my sex. The way he says my name makes me flush.

I’m so lucky the bar lighting is dim. Because it would be ridiculous to walk around like this.

I have noticed the looks — the way the others slide glances between me and Liam. I would have thought they were sneering at me. Laughing at the girl Liam has chosen to fuck this week. Making fun of Liam for hanging out with a curvy girl when there were plenty of skinny ones around.

But after what he told me that night? It’s clear the glances don’t mean that at all. It’s clear they see there’s something else lying beneath it all.

Even if I don’t understand it completely.

It’s been three days since the night I let him kiss me. The night I melted against his body and felt the ripples of his muscles fitting perfectly against my curves. Three days I can’t control my lust, and I can’t smother it.

I sneaked out to watch other bikers leaving the bar. Indeed, only the married ones ride with women behind them. Their women.

The Blackhawk Mavericks do have this rule. It’s crazy.

They’re nothing like I imagined. Boisterous and impulsive, yes. Russell, the guy I met on my first day, is as grumpy and rough as I expected.

But he’s also nice. He keeps a close eye on his sister, Zoe, and he always leaves me nice tips.

The worst part? I’m beyond used to the whole thing.

I like working here.

Leaning against the bar, I wait for Zoe to fill two glasses of beer. The shift comes to an end, and it’s my first weekend. Unlike the other days, tonight I’m leaving way past midnight.

Truly, it nears four in the morning. Finally, the clients are either falling asleep over the tables or leaving for their rooms upstairs. Only bikers in here, like every other night when the end of shift approaches, and I laugh at their antics.

I’m fully awake yet. Since this is the only job I have, I sleep late into the morning and look for extra-jobs through the afternoon.

I just need to leave that apartment. Then things will get easier.

“Here, Arya.” Zoe slides the two glasses over the counter and smiles. “Your first late-night, eh?”

“Almost morning.” I slide a glance at the clock above us. “Another hour or so and we could sip beer watching the sunrise.”

“That doesn’t sound half-bad,” Liam says from behind me.
