The red rose and letter surprised Carina so much she couldn’t describe what she felt. “What is this?” she murmured.

“A love letter, duh,” Dad replied.

Mom said, “Writing about a person’s flaws in a love letter?”

“I wanna take a break now …” Carina didn’t wait for a response before walking to her room and falling onto her bed. Today had been a really long day. She wanted to be quiet and think.

Chapter 7: Blue Day

It was not a great day for Carina.

First, her mom had promised to take her to a new restaurant that Carina wanted to try, but then her mom had to cancel their plans to join an urgent team meeting to repair a damaged robot. Since the eight teams were located in different time zones, they would possibly need to work around the clock. Carina knew that being on the team and working on robots was her Mom’s passion, but she still felt disappointed that Mom couldn’t spend time with her. Also, she really wanted to talk with her, as a ton of things had been happening lately.

The news of her and her friends being stranded in Yosemite quickly spread through the school, and it seemed like everyone was watching her.

In addition, Ace and Super had been fighting a lot more recently, and she had to intervene several times. She dropped her phone during one of their fights and cracked her screen protector, so she would have to replace that.

After the disaster of the sports festival, Carina had accidentally left her golf bag at school, so she would have to carry it on the way home.

On top of that, she still had Ken Will to deal with. That boy had been following her around during the entire school day, hoping for a reply to his letter, Carina guessed. She just wanted to get their meeting done quickly.

When she passed by him during break, she muttered, “Let’s meet at the fountain after school. We need to talk.” He seemed overjoyed that Carina was starting to pay him some attention, but she knew that his happiness wouldn’t last for long.

The bell signaled the end of the school day as everyone hurried to pack up and leave. Carina sat at her desk for a few seconds, pondering how to talk to Ken Will and dreading the interaction. She grabbed her pencil case and backpack and walked hesitantly toward the fountain. Ken Will was already there.

Before he had a chance to say anything, she blurted, “I still don’t like you.” Ken Will’s face fell, and Carina felt a pang of guilt, but continued. “I read the letter, but I can’t forgive you. Please stay away from me from now on. Thanks. Bye.” She turned on her heel and hurried to get her golf bag.

As she was walking away from school and trying to ignore the stares from her classmates, Carina pondered her conversation with Ken Will. Maybe I shouldn’t have been so harsh with him. Ugh, why was she even thinking about this? She had a ton of homework to finish— Oh, no.
