Use Job Boards Effectively

Job boards enable you to view, evaluate, and submit applications to many positions quickly. While that can feel productive, it’s deceptive. Often, you’re not actually making the progress you think you are, because there’s no correlation between the number of applications you submit and the number of interviews you receive as a result. Remember, we’re going for quality over quantity. I’ve had some people come to me after applying to over five hundred jobs without getting a single interview, and I’ve had clients of mine get a job without applying to any jobs at all.

Does this mean you shouldn’t use job boards? No. While utilizing job boards shouldn’t be your only—or even primary—activity in your job search, they do serve a purpose as a supplement. My recommendation is to use them to:

Create an inbound lead flow of new opportunities and find companies you can target

Research remote roles and descriptions for your keywords

Supplement a well-rounded search that prioritizes building relationships and branding
